It’s springtime in Texas and the entertainment season is in full swing. With the weather we’ve been having, the patio is a perfect place to host a party. Patio enclosures can make your party even better and more comfortable! Keep these tips in mind as you have friends over to catch the Big Game. Or use these tips just to enjoy a relaxing Sunday afternoon.
Patio Enclosures Tip #1 = The decorations — don’t forget the essentials.
Keep it fun, festive, and simple. Your neighborhood party store should have all you need to decorate for a specific theme, or even just to color-coordinate your party purchases. You’ll want to buy table cloths, paper plates, napkins, and plastic cups and utensils for sure. Bonus items to add to you cart are things like table toppers, streamers, party blowers for the kids, and balloons for the adults who are still kids at heart.
Tip #2 = The spread — keep in mind what will work, and what will spoil.
The key to a great patio buffet is serving delicious foods that both keep in the heat and melt in the mouth. Finger foods like veggies and chips with dip are great options. Deviled eggs and potato salad, while delicious, aren’t the way to go when you’re hosting a party outside. They could turn in the heat, and leave you with a pack of food-poisoned guests. (Yikes!) For heavier fare, you can’t go wrong with good old-fashioned hot dogs and hamburgers. Just make sure you keep the mayo in the cooler. Pro tip: Keep a trash can in plain sight so that when your guests are through eating, they don’t have to go searching for it. As an added bonus, they’ll leave less for you to clean up!
Tip #3 = The seating — don’t leave Fred out there by himself in the corner of the patio.
Make sure your patio enclosures have enough space for everyone to be able to sit or perch comfortably. Calculate the number of guests you’re hosting, then add a few extra seats to that so that people don’t have to play musical chairs to mingle. Prior to the party, spread out the chairs in a formation that allows for people to sit together in groups of three to four. That’ll help to get the conversation going and not having anyone feel left out by being stuck at a chair solo. And, if you can swing it, try to put some sort of table or stationary surface around each cluster of chairs so that people have somewhere to set their beverages and plates, and don’t have to resort to balancing them precariously on their laps.
Tip #4 = The atmosphere — protect your space from pesky party crashers.
You’ll want to set the right tone with music your guests can all agree upon, and a scented candle or two that serve the dual purpose of smelling good and keeping pests from making a meal of your guests. For added protection against mosquitoes killing the buzz, consider upgrading your patio screens to durable, customizable, and attractive power screens. Shut out those uninvited guests with a touch of a button!
Tip #5 = The temperature — keep it cool, not toasty.
The Texas weather can be unpredictable, and while we’ve been enjoying a pretty mild spring, one hot day is all it takes to ruin the comfort-level on your patio for guests. Unless, of course, you take steps to beat that heat. Misting fans work well for this, and so does serving up ice cold beverages. But nothing will save your guests from the harshness of the Texas sun like professional-grade shading. The right shade and screen combination will block the sun’s rays and shield guests from pests without sacrificing your view. And that’s truly something to party about.
